Meet the Intern

Meet Alison who joined us on 7th November. Thanks to Adopt an Intern the process from start to finish only took 5 weeks.

New Intern - Alison

I’m from Glasgow and have a BSc(hons) Immunology & Pharmacology from University of Strathclyde. I’ve worked in science for 11 years from industrial micro and chemistry labs to working in a start up medical device company, developing contact lenses. Most recently I worked in the field of molecular biology developing rapid methods of detection for infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance.

Myself and the rest of my ex-colleages were made redundant 1 month ago, so what better time for career change, something that had been on my mind for a while - with an interest in spirit distillation this was the perfect job to apply for.

Other than work, I spent 5 years playing roller derby across UK/Europe and even a tournament in the US, but I’ll be retired 2 years next March. Since escaping indoor sports halls I like to wander the hills of Scotland with my map and compass, explore the islands and the beaches of the north west. I recently bought a wetsuit and plan on doing the north west highland snorkel trail when the weather gets better. Also, when I can, I do a bit of conservation volunteering with National Trust Scotland, helping to build footpaths, fences and dry stane dykes.

Cheers,

Alison

McQueen Dry Gin is here…

Bursting with Juniper, Vanilla and spice

Today we have launched our 5th gin in…. drum roll…5 months. Not bad for a small start up company with 4 permanent staff. It’s been all hands to the pump - or in our case the Still - over the past couple weeks, getting everything ready, bottled and labeled. Samples have gone our to some of our favourite press and bloggers - oh and a couple of mixologists - to see what they come up with. We are very excited about his gin as not only does it make the perfect Gin & Tonic, we think it will be a great base in some the world’s most infamous cocktails.

Now then down to business - what does it taste like and how do you serve it??

Well it’s a distinctive dry Gin with an unmistakable McQueen Character. The nose is juniper led with a clean distinct forestry aroma. A burst of juniper gives way to a creamy rich vanilla sweetness with a light spice, ending with a crisp lime pepper finish.

And the Serve?

Fever-Tree of course, but this time the Premium Tonic Water, serve with lots of ice and a twist of grapefruit and lime peel. Simple but delicious.

Available to buy now on-line at our shop or through selected stockists (see gin map).
