Scottish Craft Distillers

Yesterday saw a meeting of Scottish Craft Gin Distillers and the Scottish Craft Distillers Association - a new organisation formed to encourage the growth of craft distilling in Scotland by assisting the development of member companies. This includes , Beer, Vodka, Whisky, Rum and now Gin. McQueen Gin was issued one of the first certification labels for craft Gin and it will be placed on every bottle leaving the distillery from today. A very proud moment for the team.

If you want to know more about the organisation and how to become a member here is a link to their website. http://www.scottishcraftdistillers.co.uk

Time flies when you are having fun…

It’s been just over 3.5 weeks since we launched and things are moving fast. We have a number new stockist and distributors, with more coming online every day. The word is getting round how fantastic our Gin is, with some very encouraging National Press mentions.

With two major events under our belt, we are ready for the next flurry of activity, the Callander Highland Games at the end of July and Stirling Highland Games in the middle of August. To help us, we have a new face in the team, Seb from France, he is joining us for 8 weeks to learn about Gin distillation, his family have a large vineyard in France that produces wine and supplies grapes for local Cognac producers. Seb is interested in producing a French Gin.

Last week saw McQueen Gin pick up a cheque for £10,000 from the Scottish Edge Wildcard Award. This award is for new entrepreneurs launching new and innovative products into the Scottish market, the award is designed to help with start up costs etc, in our case the money will be used to help fund a Graduate to work with us over the next year to learn the business and help us grow.

Watch out for the next blog post when we spill the beans on the infamous green cocktail invented by the original Mrs McQueen senior, whilst living in America.

Cocktails with… McQueen Gins Posted on May 30, 2016 by

McQueen Gin is made at the Trossachs Distillery in Callander, Scotland and is made using locally-sourced juniper. McQueen have really embraced the idea of the Signature Botanical Gin; that is a gin flavoured purely through distillation (aka London Gin) that has a signature botanical or flavour. This kind of gin has been on the rise in the last year or so; McQueen are spot-on-trend with their new range of four gins.

The flavours of their signature gins will rotate, depending on seasonality and popularity, and supporters of McQueen will get to have their say, too. So far, most other Signature Botanical Gins have been confined to flavours of a single botanical, but McQueen have taken it a step further with this selection…

James from 56 North Reviews McQueen Gin

Hi Dale

Thanks for the samples! Total fun, we’ve been playing with them this morning. They’re great and totally unique which is a hard thing to do now in the gin market place.

As promised a fully blind approach to them!

Sweet citrus - Has Mediterranean vibes for me. My thoughts would be naturally sits very well with Fever-Tree Med or 1724 garnished with orange or grapefruit. Simple tasty and I suspect will end up being the biggest seller.

Smokey Chilli - I was expecting a massive overload of flavour and in-fact it’s far more balanced and unique than i expect so top work! It has the bite of chilli and spice at the end so i’d be tempted to try going down the ginger ale route with fresh chilli or ginger to make something very fun and unique.

Mocha - I’m a coffee and chocolate fan so it was always going to be a guilty pleasure. It’s screaming gin based Espresso martini for me! Class gin + mixer wise more of a challenge. Coffee beans as a garnish but i’m tempted to say just regular Fever-Tree or similar to allow the natural flavours to shine though. Big fan!

Chocolate mint - For me the most bizarre and difficult one as it’s got loads going on. G&T with classic tonic (possibly Fentimans 19:05 herbal would be fun!) sprig of mint is natural with it and sweet citrus seems to complement this well. It’s the one I think is the most mad and fun for people to look at and will also appeal to non-gin drinkers.

All in all a very very unique set which is great.

Have a great weekend and thanks again for the samples.

James
